Yes, you read that correctly. Your website might have been de-indexed by a bug over the weekend…ours was!

Don’t panic though, it’s easy to fix.

Check if the bug affects you

It’s simple to check, go to Google and enter site: followed by your URL without the www on the front. So for this website I searched for:

site:8catsautomotive.com

What are you looking for?

Well, if the bug affects you, you won’t find your website homepage in the list of results with some people reporting that their whole site has been removed.

In the above screenshot, the homepage is present and for most websites, it will be the first result so it should be easy to find.

How do you fix it?

Well, the good news is that it’s an easy fix and your site returns almost instantly.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Google search console account (https://search.google.com/search-console) and select your domain property
  2. Enter the full URL of your Homepage into the search bar at the top. For me that was https://www.8catsautomotive.com/
  3. Click on the ‘Request Indexing’ button and wait for a couple of minutes for Google to do its thing.
  4. Go back to Google and run the site:8catsautomtive.com test again and your site/homepage should be listed.
